Very, informative information i liked the steps given and how they were broken down. Im not 55 yet but, i liked listening in. I got in idea on investing and when to retire. I was wandering if i should get a part time job somewhere else when i felt to old to work my job. Ty, for answering that question. Love, Love, Love that you said to put God in your life. The social security website was very helpful and hecum was also very interesting.

This seems to assume that all of the SS draw is spent. If I have other sources to draw on and don't need to spend the SS, then would the compound interest of investing SS income make early draw that much more attractive, or is it a wash because either way, I'm spending money I could be investing regardless of the source? Also, we expect to be in a higher tax bracket after my wife retires, due to RMDs and a pension - seems like an argument to get as much money as we can while we are in a lower bracket?

We know the government owes trillions to social security…the age should have been lowered to 60 to collect. Everyone should prepare for retirement without dependence on a government ran system. It’s criminal to not allow anyone to collect money upon retirement after a lifetime of hard work. Most Americans begin working at 18 and have money taken from their checks which makes it their money. At no time should the government owe into this whatsoever. 18 to 62 is 44 years of work and funding. Do the math on what you put in vs what is given out….its a scam. If you live to 82, you will NEVER get what you earned and that doesn’t include any interest. This safeguard of our money should be privatized. Not government controlled.

I've decided to retire at age 70. Why? Because if I live until 70 and beyond, I'll get the maximum SS benefit. And if I don't, it won't matter if I die before 70 because dead people don't need money. And of course I can always retire at 66 and 10 months and still work as much as I want without being penalized.

My best strategy has been to learn how to live at or below 150% of the poverty line most of my adult life, currently age 62. (I also read Richest Man in Babylon very early in life.) Food - The biggest game saver with this strategy was to learn how to cook well as a confirmed single bachelor. Not only have I been able to afford a monthly grocery expense below the food stamp benefit line, the meals taste better than store bought and I avoid the negative health effects of eating ultra processed food. Rent - I lived in roommate situations most of my life, and rented 1 bedroom apartments during other times. My rent has never been more than $800 a month, even in high cost areas like Southern California. Transportation - I set a life goal of never owning a car, getting around by public transportation and bicycle. My monthly transit pass has cost between $60 and $100 since 1982. Debt service -- For several years my monthly income set me up for negative cash flow, which was financed by credit cards. Now my situation is better, so I paid off about 40% of the balance in the last two years, and plan to pay off another 40% in the next 12 months. This is all the while practicing trading in the stock market, something I have loved doing since the age of 22. Reducing debt while increasing savings is directly from the Richest Man playbook. Side gigs -- I'm currently "working" by looking after a friend's house who is working out of state. The running joke is I manage Wayne Manor as her Alfred. I'm also eating up her food that is approaching the Sell By date, which is stretching the food budget, and the savings is getting converted to emergency food storage. Her little window garden is helping me get experience growing plants, which in a few years will get leveraged into growing herbs outside. I don't get paid being Alfred, but instead use the gig to save on monthly expenses and increase my skill level. Every year I have invested in life skills over savings, knowing that savings could be lost but life skills could always be monetized. Social Security - Plan on waiting for the age of 70 to draw, even while the monthly benefit will probably be close to the minimum level. But guess what, that amount is probably 85% of my current monthly budget, growing to over 100% after the CC debt is paid off. And at 65, the monthly bus pass will be free. If I choose to live overseas, my Spanish fluency from living in Buenos Aires will go well towards retiring in most Latin American countries.

No mortgage, newer vehicle paid off, no other debt. Holding dividend stocks and a rental home. Taking mine at 62, I am going to invest part of it, enjoy life with the rest. Not going to work until I die like most advisors and the government want you to do

Others say delay as long as possible, because the increases you get from SS are without risk, from FRA/67 to 70 is 8% per year. There is no guarantee of 8% return by investing. Prior to FRA there is a reduction. Big unknown question is how long one is going to live and breakeven point.

My grandma (his wife) died a few days before her 105th birthday. I’m 62 and just did a 7000-mile solo roadtrip through Mexico in my old Chevy truck. I still feel great physically, hoping I have several more good years left in me. (I still need to take that motorcycle trip on the Karakoram Highway before I croak.)

4:25 If there's only 2 people that are 100+ years old, and the following January a 3rd person turns 100, then you just experienced a 50% growth. What kind of percentage change would 1 person make in the 0 - 5 years old group? (There are 22.4 million children between the ages of zero and five years old in the country.)

  • @ron9665

3:31 So those things may have a lower instance of happening to you (and some like infant death are completely crossed off by age 65). There are still things that could happen like care wrecks, medical malpractice, heart disease, etc... So the CDC age is out, but I use 20 years for a retirement figure, so I hit the 85 years old anyway. We also plan on SS income (if exists), and a pension through state system that is 2/3rds of average of highest 5 years. I'm guessing that while we may not be rolling in clover, we should be able to make ends meet. There's also the chance at gig work, or PT work.
